Thoughts
My prelim gear check is now complete. Any thoughts, suggestions, comments out there in blogland?
ETA: Finally broke the 9 min/mile barrier and ran a 19:17 (8:59 min/mile) during 2.15 mile tempo run this evening. The overall time included 1/4 slow jog warmup and PRE was between a 6 and a 7, so I still had juice left in the tank. Sweet! Progress! I'm pretty certain I did this run correctly too as I found myself getting faster as the run went on. When it ended, I was actually running an 8:20 min/mile according to my watch. Everything I've read says that if you fade at the end of a tempo, that you went out too fast. That didn't happen this evening. I'm stoked!
Concentrating on leg turnover is a dream come true! I don't feel like I'm working any harder, but I sure am beginning to run faster.

11 Stiff Legged Comments:
You rock Girl! I was just browsing and was on blogspot. I looked up and saw the list of blogs being updated at that moment. I clicked on yours randomly. WOW. I've put it in my favorites now too and will continue to read!
I'm a 33 yo female, in Nevada. I USED to run marathons and bike 20+ miles a week (just for cross-training). This past August I just "lost it". Work life took over and I stopped everything... gym, biking, running. Since then I've gone from a toned size 4 at 135 pounds (I'm 5'9") to a flabby size 10/12 at 172 pounds. I have felt sluggish, achy and over-tired all the time!
I work approximately 65-75 hours a week, Monday through Friday (at a desk!) and sleep and watch TV all weekend.
About two weeks ago, when I jogged up only TWO flights of stairs, I became out of breath. That FINALLY made me sick of myself and how I had let go, and I decided I had to get moving again. So that night I went out for a run. I only ran 1.8 miles (had to switch with speed-walking too). It took me 17 minutes, but I felt better than I had in months. I've kept it up. This past Sunday, on my 4th bike ride since starting again; I finally broke 10 miles and biked 12.6 miles (hey, just starting again - haha).
Yesterday morning on my 9th run since starting back; I ran 8.2 miles in 64 minutes; a distance/time per mile RECORD since starting back again and still at a pretty high weight!
My average marathon times in the past (18 in 7 years) have been between 3:49 and 4:28 depending on my fitness level, conditions, weather, etc.
So, today I feel crappy; worked until midnight last night and back at work at 6:30am this morning. I was thinking of cancelling my gym session tonight for weight training. After just reading your blog for ten minutes; I'll be at the gym tonight. THANK YOU for such awesome personal inspiration! I'm sure I'm not the only one. I HAD to write you and just say thanks. You are a phenomenal inspiration. Heck, I may even have to try a triathalon or two now too! Also, I love my fur kids too. I have plenty of nieces and nephews I enjoy AND my Hubby and I both work too much to have the human variety! :-)
All of my best!
